The annual Long-Term Care International Forum (LTCIF) convened in Charleston, South Carolina from May 9 – 11, 2018. Industry leaders gathered to share information on topics purposefully focused on underwriting and claims. The first day of the conference provided early bird sessions in both areas that allowed for open discussion in a question and answer format. Attendees from Fuzion participated in the claims session and heard many topics discussed in which Fuzion’s capabilities could assist insurance carriers, especially around fraud mitigation.
The second day of the conference included many highlights, including Fuzion’s chief fraud officer, Jeff Ferrand, co-presenting with Mike Rafalko of Cozen O’Connor on the “Legal Perspectives in Annual Reporting Leading Practices and Ongoing Fraud Mitigation.” Industry chief medical officers engaged the audience with a variety of case studies for consideration and offered their perspectives during “The Doctor and Audience Challenge.” The day wrapped up with a great presentation entitled “One More for the Road? The Perils and Pitfalls of Underwriting Alcohol Use & Administering Claimants with Related Impairments.”
Fuzion’s Jeff Ferrand presented again on the last day of the conference, along with Daryl Lepak from E&Y, to share information around “Leveraging Predictive Modeling, Digital and Machine Learning to Transform Claim Operations.” The agenda was rounded out with a lot of statistical evidence on an “LTCi Marketplace Overview: Challenges and Opportunities in Meeting a Need that Still Exists” and an open an honest dialogue with a robust Q&A session with Director Ray Farmer of the South Carolina Department of Insurance. The president of the LTCIF, Joe Furlong of RGA, closed the conference with honoring Margaret Czellecz of OneAmerica, who completed her term on the board of directors and has been involved in the LTCIF organization for more than twenty years. An election was held for her replacement and Fuzion’s director of marketing, Debbie Maas, was voted onto the board of directors to serve a 5-year term. The next LTCIF conference will be held in Vancouver, BC, Canada in September 2019.
